Global Education

Accompanying Individuals

Participation in Ohio State education abroad programs is limited to enrolled, degree seeking Ohio State students and the Ohio State faculty or staff who serve as program leaders. In certain circumstances exceptions may be made.

Academic or Professional Leader
Definition: an academic or professional not employed by or associated with Ohio State but deemed essential for leadership of an Ohio State education abroad program. Individuals not affiliated with Ohio State (including retired Ohio State faculty and staff) should be temporarily hired by an academic unit to alleviate legal and risk considerations. At least one resident director must be a current Ohio State employee.
(contact Jeannie Simmons, director of global education, for approval)

Departmental Representative
Definition: an Ohio State faculty or staff member participating on an education abroad program to observe and learn about the program.
(required for approval: Departmental Representative Policy and Form)

Spouse, Partner and Minor Legal Dependent (effective academic year 2023-2024)
Definition: a spouse, partner or minor legal dependent of the resident director. Grandchildren, nieces, nephews, or other relatives and family friends who are not minor legal dependents are not allowed to accompany a program unless they are enrolled as Ohio State students participating in the program.

All required forms should be completed and uploaded to the Resident Director's Program Management Application Page on globaleducation.osu.edu. Questions can be directed to the OIA program specialist.
