Mariana Inglez

Mariana Inglez, a PhD candidate at the University of São Paulo, was a visiting scholar at Ohio State in 2020 with the support of CAPES PrInt, a foundation within the Ministry of Education in Brazil whose central purpose is to coordinate efforts to improve the quality of Brazil's higher education.

Her research, “Now and then: Nutrition transition in Amazon riverine communities,” aims to understand dietary changes in traditional Amazonian communities from a bioanthropological approach. She worked with Barbara Piperata, professor, Ohio State Department of Anthropology.

“The opportunity to work with Dr. Piperata in the Human Biology laboratory of the Department of Anthropology at Ohio State was extremely important for my academic-professional development,” Inglez said. “Even in the challenging context of the COVID-19 pandemic, I was able to exchange experiences and learn not only with my advisor, as well as with other professors and colleagues, creating a network of partnerships and support that remains active two years after this experience. I am grateful to everyone I met at Ohio State.”

Inglez recently published “Um Rio de Receitas Beiradeiras” as feedback to riverside communities participating in the project. She also spoke about her research on the podcast “Prato Cheio” and at the III CAPES PrInt Workshop hosted by the Brazil Gateway in November 2022.
